How to Migrate a User's Data to a New PC (Data Mapping)

When a user switches to a new PC, use the Data Mapping tool to move their existing CurrentWare data to the new device - without needing additional licenses on either machine.

Data Mapping is built for device refresh and replacement scenarios. Instead of losing a user's history when they get a new computer, an administrator can transfer their data (including screenshots) from the old PC to the new one in a few steps.

Where to Find It

Go to Tools > Troubleshooting > Data Mapping. This is only visible to users with Administrator permission.

Before You Begin
  1. A license is still required on both the source and destination PCs to view the data after migration.
  2. The source PC must be disconnected before its data can be moved.
  3. The target PC can be connected or disconnected.
  4. Only one PC data move can be processed at a time. Once reviewed it will queue the move. Depending on the data count this may take a while to complete.

How to Migrate a User's Data

1. Select Source PC: Under Choose Source PC & Users, select the disconnected PC you want to move data from. If the dropdown shows "No disconnected PC available," disconnect the source PC first.
2. Select Target PC: Under Choose Target Device, select the PC that will receive the migrated data.
3. Review & Migrate: Click Review & Migrate to see a summary of what will be moved, then confirm.


A confirmation dialog appears before any data is moved.

Warning
Once you confirm and the transfer runs, the change cannot be undone, so review the summary carefully before proceeding.

If the Source PC Has Multiple Users

If the source PC has data for more than one user (for example, User A and User B), you can map each user's data individually to the target PC rather than moving everything as a single block. This keeps each user's history separate on the new device.

If the Target PC Already Has Data

If the target PC already has existing data, the migrated data is merged with it rather than overwritten. No existing data on the target PC is deleted or replaced by this process.

Copying Data Between Two Disconnected PCs

Data Mapping also supports copying data from one disconnected PC to another disconnected PC, using the same Select Source PC / Select Target PC flow above.

Audit Trail

Every transfer is logged, capturing who initiated it, the timestamp, the user(s) whose data was moved, and the source and target devices. You can review this under the Queue tab.

What This Feature Does Not Do
  1. It does not copy policy configurations or settings from the source PC to the target PC; only user data.
  2. It does not support selecting a date range; a migration moves all of a user's data.
