Can I block specific file types from being transferred?
Using Block File Extensions to Restrict File Type Transfers
- Choose the AccessPatrol solution from the left-hand side
- Choose Block File Transfer.
- Select the group that you wish to block file transfer for.
- Choose the Blocked List or the Allowed list:
- Enable Blocked List: Block your users from transferring unauthorized files
- Enable Allowed list: Only allow your users to transfer authorized files
- Enter the file name or file name extensions you want to block or allow only. Examples of file extensions would be .csv, .exe, or .zip
- Click Add to add it to the list
The Block File Transfer feature is only compatible with storage devices.
Apply Blocked/Allowed list on Allowed Devices
By default, AccessPatrol will only block file transfers on devices that are not on the allowed list. Check the option “Apply Blocked/Allowed list on Allowed Devices” to enforce block file transfers on Allowed devices.
Blocking File Transfers to and from computers and devices
File transfer activities between a computer and a device can happen both ways. You can choose to use AccessPatrol to block file transfer one way (from computers to storage devices) or two way (from computers to storage devices and from storage devices to computers).
Instructions
- On the CurrentWare Console, go to Settings > AccessPatrol > Options
- Under Blocking Options:
- Choose One way blocking to block file transfers from computers to storage devices
- Choose Two way blocking to block file transfers from computers to storage devices and from storage devices to computers.
- Click on the Apply button
Block Original File Extensions
Enabling this option will allow AccessPatrol to monitor a file’s original file extension and prevent end users from bypassing Block File Transfer. For example, a company is using block file transfer to block .exe files from being copied to external USBs. With this option enabled, if a user tries to bypass the block by renaming the file from .exe to .123, AccessPatrol will be able to identify the file as .exe instead of .123 and still block the file transfer. Not all files are compatible with this feature. See a list of supported file extensions.

- On the CurrentWare Console, go to Settings > AccessPatrol > Options.
- Under Blocking Options, check the option “Block original file extension” to enable it.
