Adding CurrentWare to your Antivirus’ Exclusion Lists

Adding CurrentWare to your Antivirus’ Exclusion Lists

The CurrentWare software is created in a secure environment. All of the files are thoroughly tested and digitally signed by Microsoft. In some cases third-party Antivirus and firewall programs can sometimes interfere with the functionality of CurrentWare, strictly due to the nature of the 'reading' capabilities of various CurrentWare tools.

To ensure the CurrentWare Server and Client runs smoothly and performs at its best, set up security exclusions in third-party security tools like antivirus, EDR, or HIPS solutions. While the CurrentWare Server and Client is designed to be lightweight, some antivirus programs may heavily scan its files and processes, which could affect its performance.

Why Exclusions Are Essential

Configuring exclusions is crucial to ensuring smooth and uninterrupted performance of the CurrentWare Client. Without proper exclusions, third-party security software like antivirus programs can interfere with the client's processes, leading to:
  1. Slower performance due to constant file and process scanning.
  2. Increased system resource usage as both tools compete for CPU and memory.
  3. Potential disruptions in the client’s functionality and stability.
To prevent these issues and ensure seamless operation, configure exclusions for specific files, folders, and processes on your Windows machines.

Files to Exclude Before Installing

Add the following to your exclusion list

cwClientSetup.exe -This is the client installer package
C:\Program Files (x86)\CurrentWare
C:\AppData\Roaming\CurrentWare\ -This folder may be hidden by default
C:\Windows\System32\WinDivert64.sys

Files to Exclude for the CurrentWare Clients

Exclude all the files from these folders

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\wcsystck\
C:\Windows\Temp\cwClientSetup.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\CurrentWare\cwClient\cwClientSetup.exe

*for 32-bit OS, the directory is C:\Windows\System32\wcsystck\

Files to Exclude for the CurrentWare Server

C:\Program Files (x86)\CurrentWare\cwServer\cwServer.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\CurrentWare\cwServer\CWSM.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\CurrentWare\cwConsole\cwConsole.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\CurrentWare\cwClient\cwClientSetup.exe

*for 32-bit OS, the directory is C:\Program Files\CurrentWare\

Ports to exclude on your 3rd party firewall

Based on your solution(s) installed you may have different port requirements.

Ports and ProtocolWhat the ports handle
8989-8992, 8995-8999 TCP/UDPClient+Console connection and data upload ports
8988 TCP/UDPLive Capture feature – OPTIONAL – For BrowseReporter live capture feature
